WHY IS A WRAP DRESS SO AMAZING?

WHY IS A WRAP DRESS SO AMAZING?

No dress can easily accomplish what the wrap dress has. Created by famed fashion designer Diane Von Furstenburg in the 70s.

With a tie waist that cinches on the slimmest portion of torso, the wrap dress gives an ultra-slimming effect. Paired with a v-neckline, the dress enhances your bust and slims over the hips, a great option for those with a pear shape or those looking to add curves.

Wrap dresses also transcend age based fashion and are timeless while being versatile for all occasions.

Our wrap dress is especially elevated because it is a faux wrap.  A straigth up down dress that has an overlay to create a wrap effect.

Try it now in these two gorg fabrics.

MIA MOD - THE REBRAND

MIA MOD - THE REBRAND

I knew we needed to go thru a rebrand here at Mia Mod.

We've outgrown our Fonts, we've expanded our categories, and we have opened brick and mortars.  So the time had come.

I want to share with you a little bit of the process.

As the team explored how the future will look, I took time to meditate on WHY Mia Mod came about and how that manifests itself in a branding update.

This is what I've come up with.

In one word; Kindness.  To me, Kindness is a deeper form of "niceness" and  takes it shape in many forms.

My goal is to always endeavor to lead with kindness, and make sure it filters into every part of the business.  This is how:

Kindness in Inclusivity.  Trying as best to create size ranges, lengths, silhouettes, and colors of our items to be as inclusive as possible.

Kindness in Price Point.  Trying as much as we can to keep pricing down despite the ever evolving & challenging financial climate of the world.  Mia Mod to me has never been about making the owner rich.  Rather it has always been about catering to everyone with as affordable pricing as possible.

Kindness in Service.  Trying to train our employees both in the e-comm sector, and physical brick and mortars to give personal attention to every individual.  Family friendly stores are of our utmost importance.  Understanding customers requests, and taking feedback constructively to provide the best service possible (within healthy boundaries :) ).

Kindness in Management.  Trying as best as I can to involve myself in every single department as much as possible. In our company we all know that no job is too small and beneath us - we all work as a team. I try to be a part of all aspects  from wholesale, to design, to serving in stores, to tidying and cleaning,  and especially to running the Instagram.  With all changes, I still want to try as best as I can to answer every DM and get to know all MM Customers and potential customers.   No business can exist without customers, and in our partnership I will always try to turn to Customer Instagram polls to help decide what's coming next.

Kindness in Actions, Interactions, and Reactions.

Yet all the while, keeping it all fun and cheerful around here.

So when you look at our new Site and Logo, we hope you fall in love. There'll be hints of MM's voice and wit around the site.  From our colors, to the fun names of our collections.

We invite you to come on this new journey with us. We invite you to drop us comments, feedback, requests, and even constructive criticism.

That is, as long as you do it all, with kindness!

Happy New Year everyone!

Love you and appreciate you!

🤗
Love Leah

How The Everything Dress Got Its Name

How The Everything Dress Got Its Name

For many years I had this one dress that I dubbed my "airplane dress".  We all have a go to flying fit, and mine was this one dress I recycled over and over.  I had purchased it on a trip to China and had never found anything that equaled this dress in terms of practicality and comfort.

But it was missing pockets.  And it wasn't perfect, the neckline was way too open, even for my standards, and sleeves were a little too fitted.

Nonetheless I wore this airplane dress every single time I flew, until one day I realized I could try replicate this dress and perfect its missing parts.

So I said a little prayer and sent this dress off to my office in China, wondering if I'd ever see my airplane dress again.

That was about 3 years ago.  Since that time sample after sample has been sent my way, but none has been able to come anywhere close to my beloved airplane dress.  The dress has safely landed back in my house, and every so often I have revived the "make airplane dress perfect" project again.

But it's never worked out.

In fact, as the airplane dress has aged, so too has my taste in flying attire.  Two piece outfits have become easier.  With hoodies and my sway with leggings making the now "airplane dress" obsolete.

But early in 2022 I decided it was time to take one last crack at the "airplane dress".  Fix that neckline, loosen those sleeves, upgrade that fabric, and add two pockets for the last last time.

I said a little prayer again, handed the project over to someone new, and well, this time it worked out.  The dress was PERFECT.  It was exactly what I had been dreaming all along, it had the pockets, the texture, the neckline, the non cling, it was EVERYTHING I had hoped for and more.

And so, it was put into production, and as the product was added into the website, I realized the "airplane dress" had renamed itself, because it could be worn for anywhere and anything, and because of what I loved about it: Everything.

And so it was called, The Everything Dress

And Everything it is.

My Favorite Pizza Dough Recipe

My Favorite Pizza Dough Recipe

As my daughter once described, I'm a "mediocre cook."  But there's one thing I make, according to my son, which is "fire" (it's a good thing btw if you're not subscribed to the Gen Z dialect).

I happen to love this Pizza dough mostly because it legit takes a few mins to make.  And I really try to make it sparingly so my kids don't get sick of it.

I double it up because it's very "moreish", always leaves them wanting more!

Here it is (with my hacks!)

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast (if you buy the little envelopes you will have some left over. Envelopes typically contain 2 1/ teaspoons. Fold the remaining yeast up tightly and keep refrigerated for the next time)

(I use fleischmanns pizza dough yeast or rapid rise, ain't got time for the yeast to do its thing)

Combine and wait till the yeast proofs then add:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour, plus more for kneading and dusting your work surfaces
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

(NOTE I DO ABOUT 3/4 CUP SUGAR HERE THE KIDS LOVE IT)

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt (less if you only have table salt handy)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • cornmeal (optional)

DEF NO NEED FOR CORNMEAL

ENJOY!

It's time to get personal....

It's time to get personal....

As I was checking out of a hotel tonight, limos were arriving bringing couples to their prom.  Each girl dressed to perfection wearing a look that probably had a year worth of thought put into it.  They all seemed to feel so pretty and excited to show their classmates their outfit, hair, makeup, shoes.

I thought about how today must have felt so special to each girl and boy of this grade.  Pampering and prepping to step out tonight.

I caught myself wondering what it feels like to love getting dressed up and be excited about it.

Then I started to question, when did I start to dislike doing all the glam and prep?

My analytical mind turned back pages in my personal history book all the way to the beginning....

I was a kid who didn't actually dislike school.  But Friday was my favorite school day of all. It ended earlier than all the other days.

But Friday never ended up in whole as a favorite.

Bouncing in the door after school to the smell of my mother's fresh schnitzel, the smell memory of Friday's were the only beautiful part.

Fridays after school were always a RUSH.

Especially on the short winter Shabbosim.

Rush to get last minute groceries, rush to find shabbos reading material, rush to call friends to organize details for shabbos afternoon, and then fights to take turns to shower (no one wanted to go first ever). Yelling, pushing, forcing.. all for one thing:

To get dressed up in our Shabbos best to welcome shabbos.

Copy paste to every Friday.

And also all the yomim tovim.

I think somewhere along the way the joy of getting dressed up was simply just lost.  And in creating my own household today I realize I'm not exactly rectifying that Shabbos rush.  I'm passing down a lineage that getting dressed up is a chore.

I only have one daughter and everything I do is noticed. She's incredibly intuitive and she picks up on everything.

Another time I hope to open up about my long history with body image issues but for today let's pretend that the only reason I don't like getting dressed up is because I associate it with years of rush, stress, and anxiety.

We just had Lag Baomer. We all know the famous line from Rabbi Akiva... it's never too late.

So, despite living by example to my daughter for almost 12 years, I'm going to try make a conscious effort to change.  I'd love to flip the narrative that she's getting dressed to go do the thing she loves (hanging out with her friends on Shabbos).  It's not a chore.

In a few months it will be her bas mitzvah.  The clock is ticking.  I have to flip the narrative fast.  So that when her big day comes around, she will be counting down like those prom kids, and be over the moon with excitement to get glammed and dressed up and be celebrated for the special girl that she is.

 Wish me luck 🤞

Xo

Leah

DOES IT MATTER WHAT COLOR WE WEAR?

DOES IT MATTER WHAT COLOR WE WEAR?

I found this article interesting.. i don't agree with all of it,  but it still got me thinking if we are what we wear.....

What is color psychology?

Color psychology is the study of how colors affect your behavior, mood and impression on others.

Can the color you wear really affect your mood? Research says yes; color can absolutely affect your mood, behavior and stress levels.

Color specialist Leatrice Eiseman says how colors affect us correlates to that colors behavior in nature. Eiseman has asked thousands of people what they think of specific colors and has found many patterns.

Colors create the same impressions for different people.

For example, the color blue is almost always associated with blue skies, which when we are children is a positive thing — it means playing outside and fun. Evolutionarily it also means there are no storms to come and good sun for crops. This is why blue reminds us of stability and calm.

She cautions that there are no magic bullet answers, but there are generalities that can be gleaned from decades of research on the patterns of what people think about each color. Your personality can also change your opinions of colors.

So, how can you pick the perfect color for each situation? Based on the research, here is your personal color guide:

Research shows that colors can greatly affect our moods and the way other people respond to us. Amazingly, colors can even change our heart rate, blood pressure and respiration, as researchers Keith Jacobs and Frank Hustmyer discovered in 1974.

With that in mind, here’s the ultimate color guide on what color to wear.

You have different ways of thinking about colors:

You can pick the color based on the mood you are already in.

Or you can pick the color based on the mood you WANT to be in.

Here are some color ideas on what to wear:

Best Colors to Wear to the Office

Green

This color denotes freshness, safety and harmony. It’s also associated with money and the “go” signal for a traffic light—both great characteristics in the workplace. The color green is restful on the eyes and produces the least amount of eyestrain, making this a good choice for people who sit in front of a screen for many hours.

Blue
This is the color of truth and wisdom. It also has a calming effect and is linked to intellect. It’s also the most stable color. So if you have a volatile or drama-filled workplace, blue is a great color to wear to counteract the tension.

Brown
The color of stability, brown is also seen as masculine. If you’re a woman in a predominantly male workplace, wearing a chocolate brown suit can give you credibility.

Black
This power color can convey feelings of mystery and seriousness. It is also considered elegant and has a thinning effect. (And who doesn’t love that?) If you want to be treated seriously, the typical black suit with a splash of green or blue works wonders.

Worst Colors to Wear to the Office

Yellow
This is the happiest of all the colors and usually stimulates joy. However, yellow is considered an unstable color, so it can be over-energizing for the office and make the wearer look weak.

Grey
Grey implies that people are passive, uninvolved and have a lack of energy. If you like wearing grey, pairing it with a brighter color such as blue can help offset the negative effect.

Red
This is the color of aggression and passion—great for a first date, not so great for the office. It also increases metabolism and raises blood pressure, which is why it’s used for stop signs and fire engines. Red can be seen as a bit hostile in the work environment, so think twice before wearing it often.

Colors to Wear in Moderation or as Accents

Orange
This is a color of stimulation and enthusiasm. It’s not as aggressive as red, but can catch attention, so it’s good to wear in moderation.

Purple
Purple reminds people of royalty and luxury. It’s also the color of magic. However, since purple rarely occurs in nature, it’s also seen to be artificial. A purple scarf, tie or purse can be a nice, subtle addition to any outfit.

White
This color is associated with cleanliness and perfection. It is always a safe choice for a shirt or scarf, but too much white denotes timidity and sterility—not good for workplace relations.

Colors affect our moods and how others perceive us. But, of course, colors aren’t the only thing that affects how people see us—you can still be liked at work even if you’re wearing a yellow suit. Still, when given the choice, pick a color that will work for you and not against you.

There is also some amazing color psychology research on different situations. Take a look at these interesting color ideas:

What Color You Should Make Your Desktop?
Green. What color you choose for your desktop and the colors you choose for your website can greatly affect your productivity. The color green is restful for eyes and produces the least amount of eyestrain. This is a good choice for computer desktops if you are in front of a screen for many hours.

What Color to Wear to Work Out?
Orange. Orange is a color of stimulation and enthusiasm. Orange is a nice mix of red’s passion and yellow’s joy. Research has found that orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an energizing effect, and stimulates brain activity.

What Color to Wear on a Date (if you’re a woman)?
Red. Red is the color of passion and gets blood pumping. Women can wear this to get their date’s heart racing.

What Color to Wear on a Date (if you’re a man)?
Blue. Blue is the most stable color. Women love seeing stable men. It is also calming and can help relax both you and your date’s nerves.

What to Wear If You Want to Be Seen As Strong?
Black. Researchers examined statistics from more than 52,000 National Hockey League games and found that teams were penalized more for aggression while wearing black jerseys. (Hockey teams have two color jerseys and switch for home and away games). Interestingly, the NHL in 2003 changed its jersey policy so that home teams had to wear white. The authors of the study compared the sets of data and found that the same teams were assessed significantly more penalties for aggression when they wore the black jerseys than when they wore white.

What Colors You Should Paint Your Office?
Blue and Green. In 1999, researchers at Creighton University found that colors significantly influence employees’ emotions and efficiency. Workers in blue offices felt the most centered, calm and hopeful towards their work. Since blue can lower heart rates and green reduces anxiety and is associated with money, a combination of blue and green is best for the workplace.

↑ Table of Contents ↑

What Color You Should Never Wear to Work?
Grey. Grey inspires people to be passive, uninvolved and have a lack of energy. If you like wearing grey, pairing it with a brighter color will help offset the effect.

Choosing the color of your office, your clothes or your desktop should not be taken lightly — colors do affect our moods and productivity. However, colors are not the only thing that affects us — one can still be efficient in a grey suit or workout well in a black outfit. But, when given the choice, picking a color that will work with you, and not against you can only help.

What is color psychology?
Color psychology is the study of how colors affect your behavior, mood and impression on others.
